How to be a FUNGI!

New Gardeners quickly find out that Fungi plays a crucial role in plant live and soil biome. The same is true when it comes to us humans. Fungi are a type of organism that is not classified as plant or animal.

They are a diverse group of organisms that includes yeasts, mushrooms, and molds.

Fungi help the immune system by producing beta-glutans which can be found in many foods such as oats, barley, rye, and wheat. Beta-glutans have been shown to help with autoimmune conditions such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The benefits have led to it being used in cancer therapy to help fight cancer cell growth.

BETA-GLUTANS = MUSHROOMS

Shiitake, Maitake, and Reishi contain some of the highest levels of plant based vitamin D. Consuming more than 3 grams a day shows benefits.

Fungi also lower cholesterol levels by breaking down bile acids which are made from cholesterol. Fungi also slow glucose absorption which helps with diabetes management and weight loss because it keeps blood sugar levels stable for longer periods of time.
